Callings in the Church

My Patriarchal Blessing says that I will be called to work with the women of the church and with the young women.  It doesn't say anything about children or primary. It has been a blessing to serve as Young Women's President in the Waller Ward (Katy Stake) back in the mid-nineties, and as Relief Society President three times!  I first served in the Waller Ward (Katy Stake) for about 2.5 years, then in Silver Pines (Cypress Stake) for almost five years, and then the Crighton Ward (Conroe Stake) for almost three years.   I am currently serving as First Counselor in the Stake Relief Society Presidency for the Conroe Stake, and I love working with the sisters. I was released as Young Women's President in 1998, about the time I went to Las Vegas to take out my endowment,  Six months later, my husband joined the church, and then I was called to be the Relief Society President.   Jackie Hoyt was the president, and she was pregnant with Boy #4.  I woke up in the middle of my sleep

My Conversion Story

Image
This is my conversion story as written in 1980.  I wanted to include this early version of it here, but I will also comment on changes or additions to it below. "In the summer of 1977 we bought a house at 1220 SW 91st Street in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Eddie had wanted to buy a house, but I didn't want the burden of owning again.  Finally, he persuaded me to at least look.  I decided before I went out with the realtor, just what our limit would be, and really never thought we'd find anything.  But we did.  Even with all the house's faults, I feel like we were meant to buy that house. "Our neighbor to the left of us was especially kind and friendly, and we learned soon after what a unique family they were.  There were six children, and all of them worked around the house.  Joey soon became acquainted with Lesley and I watched them play together.  I offered Lesley iced tea, but she refused.  She was a sweet girl and I enjoyed having Joey playing with someone like

Temple and Missionary Service

We served as temple ordinance workers when the temple first opened for about 2.5 years. I started serving again about 2005 and Eddie joined me when he retired.  All temples were closed in March of 2020 due to the Covid-19 epidemic.  We were released in 2021, and then served as Family Search Service Missionaries from November 2021 - November 2022.   We were called because of our work at the Conroe Community Cemetery.   In addition to continuing the clean up work we started three years prior, we were now working on Texas Death Certificates to locate those who might have been buried in that cemetery.   Eddie continues to serve a mission, working exclusively on the Conroe Community Cemetery

Bill Slamin was in our ward in Overland Park.  He was the one who spoke in sacrament about the Holy Ghost telling him to get off the airplane.  He did, and his co-workers perished in that plane crash.
